From trolling Daisy Shah's dialogue to making hilarious memes on Salman's rocket launcher scene, the internet was raving about the drastic change of the Race franchise during the past month. The much hyped movie has finally reached the screens today.
The race franchise has always been about twists, revenge and splurge. Also, with Saif Ali Khan out of his own franchise and Salman Khan taking over, it is not wrong for one to expect a radical change in the franchise. As the trailer gave us a good idea of the proceedings, one should expect over the top action, extravaganza in every scene. Last but not the least, the entire franchise is now Bhai-fied .
So now, let's get to the review.
Race 3 has the tagline "You don't need enemies when you have family". Salman Khan plays Sikandar Singh who is the nephew of weapons dealer and business tycoon Shamsher Singh, played by Anil Kapoor. Suraj (Saqeb Saleem) and Sanjana (Daisy Shah) play twin siblings and cousins of Sikandar while Yash (Bobby Deol) is Sikandar's trusted friend.
Jacqueline Fernandez plays Jessica who is mysterious and Sikandar's love interest.
The plot revolves around what happens when tension builds up in the family regarding the splitting of family property. The story is clichéd as we have watched it over and over again in numerous bollywood movies. What saves "Race 3" is its screenplay.
As Identities change and twists are thrown at us one after the other in the latter half, the movie rises above the gravity - defying action sequences and extravaganza displayed throughout the film. Anil Kapoor stands out among the performances while others are decent in their roles.
The canvas of the film is grand and the making is super - stylish. Cinematography by Ayananka Bose is praiseworthy. Songs come up at regular intervals interrupting the narration, but after all, one should walk in to the movie hall realizing that the movie is a commercial venture.
Watch it or not?
The screenplay has enough in it to make it a decent watch for serious movie goers who hates mindless action and meddling with physics, though some unanswered questions might linger even after the 160 minute long movie. For those who love entertainment, this movie will be a visual treat. Catchy songs, Flamboyant sets, Action overload - Race 3 has it all. This movie is worth a watch considering this is the first "Khan movie" of 2018.
My Rating : 3.5/5
